Wilmington NC Fun Attractions

Attractions in Wilmington, NC

Wilmington, North Carolina is a port city between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean in the southeastern part of

North Carolina. It was not originally a tourist destination, but its temperate four-season climate, historic district, annual

events, golf courses and nearby beaches has made it a top draw among tourists.

Wilmington has something for everyone. Tourists of any age and any interest will find something to captivate them in the

town. One of the finest is the riverboat cruise program on the Cape Fear River. There is the Henrietta III cruise that is

open to the public from April through December and offers private charter cruises throughout the year. You can choose the

Friday or Saturday Dinner Dance cruise or if you are looking for less sedate fun, choose the Murder Mystery Cruise where you

solve a who-dunnit. There is also a Sunset Dinner cruise, which is a great idea if you want to take your family out for a

relaxing evening or the Redneck Wedding Comedy cruise where two characters Sallie and Bubba go through a comic marriage

ritual and then dine with you at the barbeque buffet.

Additionally, there are Fishing charters available to take you fishing around the waters of Wilmington, both inland and

offshore and even train you in angling if you do not have any prior experience. There is no saying what type of fish you may

catch on one of these trips, if any, but it certainly will be a memorable time.

History buffs will find that Wilmington, NC offers numerous choices of museums. Try the Cape Fear Museum if you are

interested in history and marine exhibits. If ships interest you, a visit to the Battleship North Carolina is a must see. It

is located just across the Cape Fear river in historic downtown Wilmington. There are many restored southern mansions to

tour such as The Bellamy House and Gardens. There is also the Cameron Art Museum, the Children’s Museum and the Wilmington

Railroad Museum. For snakes and other reptiles, the Cape Fear Serpentarium should not be missed.

Among other attractions in Wilmington are the excellent golf courses, great camping facilities, a number of live music and

theater venues, amusement parks, historical plantations and beaches. You may also want to take a haunting tour of historic

Wilmington via the Haunted Pub Crawl. In addition you can tour the Screen Gem Studios where popular shows such as One Tree

Hill and Dawson’s Creek are filmed.
